In a ruling on November 9, 2023, the Supreme Court clarified that only registered and licensed architects have the authority to sign architectural documents, resolving the conflicting provisions of Republic Act No. 544 (Civil Engineering Law) and RA 9266 (Architecture Act of 2002). The Court, in a decision authored by Senior Associate Justice Marvic Leonen, found the provisions of the Civil Engineering Law allowing civil engineers to sign architectural documents irreconcilable with the Architecture Act, which mandates that only registered architects may seal and sign such documents. With this clarification, the question arises: What comes next in light of this legal determination? The question now is what’s next?
